Used construction equipment often has a bit more wear and tear on it than a new piece of machinery would. To ensure your investment lasts a lifetime, you’ll need to give it a little extra TLC. This includes washing your construction equipment when it begins to build up dust, dirt, debris, or even oil. For tips on how to properly wash your heavy equipment, as well as which tools you may need to get the job done, be sure to read our helpful advice below.

Gather Your Tools

A hose simply isn’t going to cut it when washing used machinery. While we advise grabbing a power washer to precisely cut through all the dirt and grime, water cannons are also a valid option. You may also want to grab some protective eye gear, and even a waterproof parka to protect yourself from dirty water and flying debris. Finally, we advise purchasing a low-acidic product and a high-pH detergent to give your equipment a deep clean without leaving behind soap scum and residue.

Washing Your Equipment

Start by rinsing your used equipment with your power washer or water cannon, paying close attention to any stubborn mud and debris. Once your machine is thoroughly rinsed, you’ll want to apply your gentle acid. When using your acid, be careful to avoid any glass or windows, and only apply it to the body of your machinery. Afterward, apply your detergent directly over the acid, before rinsing both products away. You’ll find that this method of washing your machinery is extremely effective, and will not damage your paint or finish in any way.
